Ideas for:
Visiting Idyllwild
Up above the chaos and noise is a little retreat town bringing us back to the more simple times. Idyllwild is many things to many people of all different age groups and cultures.
Some love the laid back ma-and-pa vibe, others appreciate the wonderful community of artists and talented musicians. Foodies seek out world-class fine dining. Nature sports such as sledding, mountain biking, beautiful hiking trails and rock climbing call in the nature enthusiast.
Whatever the reason Idyllwild has your attention we welcome you with open arms in any season
and look forward to your next visit.
Starting with the yummy.
Hungry from the aromas in the air?
Idyllwild has many varieties of cuisines and you might be surprised at the amount of foodies who travel for hours to experience Idyllwild's flavors varying from Italian, Mexican, Asian Fusions and American of course. Looking for vegetarian or vegan, you can find that here. Many restaurants cater to food allergies as well. We have no drive-thru's nor chain restaurants which means authenticity at its yummiest. So what are you in the mood to eat today?
After a little initiative and time we have complied a list of local favorite Breakfast go to, Lunch favorites, and Best Suppers with the added bonus of live music, you can check the links to see.
Now for the fun!
Many ways to get your mind off the everyday and enjoy.

For the nature enthusiasts:
Check out the trails! Hiking has a variety of difficulty levels and distances for families with young to the ones spending the day pacing through. Whether hiking to a Bouldering and Rock Climbing destination or to a magnificant view be sure to pack some water. Possibly biking your way through the forest and camping for a few, remember to bring the camera. Best to know first of the Forest Station where you can gather more information and permits if needed and if dogs are allowed to join and which are best suited for bikes.

Idyllwild-area Mountain Bike Trails
-
Coyote Run: Closed until further notice. Beginning at the north end of Hurkey Creek County Park and ending at the waterfalls on Hurkey Creek, this easy and scenic ride is about two miles on a dirt road closed to motor vehicles. Parking is available at the day-use area within the Hurkey Creek Campground or outside the park.
-
Fobes Ranch Road and Spurs: This trail s located three miles south of Lake Hemet on Highway 74 in Garner Valley. The roads are easy to moderate and offer more than two miles of mountain bike riding.
-
May Valley Trail System: May Valley road is reopened after the fire. Some trails at the top and bottom of the road are also reopened.
-
The Hub Trail System: This winding trail system incorporates great views of Alvin Meadow and the Grotto. Trails climb from behind Idyllwild Arts up toward Pine Cove. Moderate to challenging.
-
Thomas Mountain and Ramona Trail: This challenging 17-mile loop is considered one of the best rides in the area. It begins one mile south of Lake Hemet on Highway 74, six miles north of the junction with Highway 371. The dirt road ascends from an elevation of 4,500 feet to more than 8,700 feet in 13 miles to Thomas Mountain Peak, offering far-reaching views of Anza and San Diego below
Rock climbing and bouldering hotspots are Black Mountain, Tramway, and South Ridge Trail and of course without hesitation the world known crag Tahquitz. Black Mountain
is particularly popular during the summer months with an elevation at 8,000ft
the temperatures are ideal. South Ridge is one of my old favorites with many
climbs scattered about only closer to town than other options. Tahquitz or Lily
Rock and Suicide Rock (Tahquitz smaller neighbor) are the main attractions with
200+ routes to chose from. The decimal rating system for rock climbing was
developed by climbers on Tahquitz but was later renamed the Yosemite Decimal System or YDS. Tahquitz will always have its place in the past, present and on into the future.
